My wife has been on an infusion kick lately. We now have several bottles of vodka in our liquor cabinet infused with various exotic flavors. The weirdest one is Banana & Roasted Carrot, which is surprisingly good in a Porn Star Martini. The interesting part, though, isn’t when it’s bottled, but during the infusion process itself. It’s not complicated: put the infusion ingredients in a mason jar, then top it up with vodka. Let it sit for a couple of days, then strain. Done.

But the mason jar, when filled with peaches, or lemons, or even beets, all steeping in a boozy bath looks beautiful. The submerged fruit is glossy and chromatic, with deep shadows and gleaming highlights. I gasped audibly when I opened the fridge one day to see this jar of glowing peaches, and immediately began thinking of how to feature it in a still life arrangement. This image is what followed.
