12″x12″, Oil on Linen on Panel
An often overlooked source of inspiration for still life painters is good retail display. Many stores employ top-notch designers to put together eye-catching arrangements of beautiful products in brightly lit environments. This painting comes from such a display that featured glass jars filled with cotton swabs with yellow plastic stems. An intense pinspot light was focused on each jar, causing the translucent plastic to glow intensely. The moment I saw it, I knew it would make a cool painting.
