Pickled Green Beans

12″x9″, Oil on Panel

My wife likes to grow vegetables in her garden. One summer, she got a bumper crop of green beans–way more than we could eat–so she pickled lots of them. I thought they looked beautiful in the jar, particularly with a bright light shining on it, and made this very simple still life. The red pin (reminiscent of another painting on this site) provides some color contrast, while the brightness of the white fabric balances the briny darkness inside the jar.
